First Call 24.08.2010

First opportunity to get photos, this was the first fire call i got to attend. There were some images but I learnt I need to take a lot more photos when i get to go to fore calls.

Assignment 2:People

For this assignment I have gained permission to photograph the firefighters in the Temuka Volunteer Fire Brigade. For the two week holiday I am aloud to turn out to fire calls going on the truck if the duty officer allows me too, this will allow me to document to the hard work firefighters put into saving lives.

On Monday 23 August i attended their training night, this night they were doing first aid. The photos taken weren't exactly the high action shots I wish to achieve over the two weeks but it was a good chance to get used to photographing movement.

Proposal

I choose to use the train station due to the emotive qualities it could produce. When I first arrived at the train station i wondered around to try get inspiration of what i wanted to document for this project. The station provoked a sense of confusion as I was in such a busy place yet felt completely alone. Which lead me to the trains coming and going from the station and how without the trains the tracks seems completely alone and insignificant. After studying the tracks for a bit the symmetry they portrayed also really interested meas the tracks were continuously within perfect symmetry.

This is what i wanted to show, the sense of being alone along with the symmetry throughout the station by using the tracks as my focus.

Artist Model

These images by Olafur Eliasson were my inspiration behind the photos i took at the train station. The colour tone of the photographs really interest me also how he has taken such an old subject matter and made each photograph so interesting. Eliasson finds ways to take places which have been around for years, some photographed many times, and making them interesting and origional which is what i want to do with my mages from the train station.

Another Shoot

This shoot i discouvered my idea of being alone didn't work so well, so i decided to focus on the symmetry between the trains and the tracks at different levels through out the train station.

I was still also playing with the ampeture and shutter speed, howv=ever i feel in quite a few of the photos I hve been getting this right.

Idea's - Being Alone

The idea of being completely alone in such a busy place really interested me and i felt needed documenting which is the reasoning behind this photograph. Without knowing what the train station is like this photo would suggest it was very quiet when really it is completely opposite. The photo shows to me the feelings i feel at the train station, completely alone.

Idea's - Symmetry

The idea of symmetry around the train station really inspires me, especially this photo taken during my second trip to the train station. I like the way this photo uses the lines of the terminal tops along with the symmetrical trains.
